Karin Brown, Artistic Director, dancer, dance instructor, choreographer and creator of the Dancin Babies program is a certified dance instructor in classical ballet, jazz, tap and theatrical arts. With well over thirty years of teaching experience, Karin enjoys teaching students of all ages, from mommy and me classes with the youngest at 18 months of age, up to senior citizen classes as well.
Karin discovered her love and passion for the dance arts at the age of five. She studied ballet exclusively during her elementary, middle school and high school years and upon graduation, attended Point Park College, in Pittsburgh, PA as a dance major in classical ballet. There she continued her classical ballet studies with the renowned Professor Nicolas Petrov, Ph.D, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and artistic director. She also had the privilege of studying with professors Douglas Bentz, contemporary jazz, Ron Tassone, tap and Judith Leifer, modern dance, plus dancing with the PPC dance company.
Karin continued her dance studies in a three year dance teacher's certification program and upon graduation taught at the Avalon Recreation Center, Avalon, NJ, Kays Dance Studio, Trevose, PA, Wanda Hamilton's School of Classical Ballet, Horsham, PA, Strick Leasing Co., Fairless Hills, PA, Living Well Lady, Langhorne, PA, Neshaminy High School's Adult Education, Langhorne, PA., Workshops In Dance, Yardley, PA and most recently Makefield Elementary School, Yardley, Pa.
To further her dance knowledge, Miss Karin studied dance in New York City and after successfully completing Dance Educators of America Dance Teachers Certification Program and passing the certification examination, she received her teaching diploma in July 1993. Having a membership with Dance Educators of America is a recognized distinction of proven ability and knowledge as a dance teacher and is governed by a code of strict professional ethics and it is with great pride that Ms. Brown is a member of DEA. For Ms. Brown, the highlight of graduation day was attending the graduation ball at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and having honorary guests, Gelsey Kirkland, principal dancer of the NYC Ballet Co. and Debbie Allen, actress, choreographer, television producer and director present.
In New York City, Miss Karin studied classical ballet with Alexander Filipov, Russian dancer, former classmate and friend of Mikael Baryshnikov. Mr. Filipov was a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet, and heart throb of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and currently teaches at Steps, NYC. Ms. Brown also studied classical ballet with Henry Danton, a prominent and internationally known dancer, teacher, choreographer and artistic director from London, who performed with the International Ballet of London and Sadlers Wells Ballet. Mr. Danton was the Director of D.E.A. for 10 years. In addition, Karin studied and trained with: Jo Rowan, Oklahoma University, Roni Mahler, former ballerina of American Ballet Theater, Ron DiVito, veteran broadway performer of 42nd Street and original cast of Cats, "Rum Tum Tiger". Frank Hatchett from Broadway Dance Center, Luigi, the father of Modern Jazz who performed with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and Gary Pate from Maryland, DEA Competition Chairman, DEA Board of Directors and founder of StarPower Competition. Phil Black an extraordinary teacher and choreographer of New York City, with film star students, Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and John Travolta. Gus and Nan Giordano, Jazz, Chicago, IL, Debbie Dee, tap dancing master and Sam Fiorella, both from Florida. Al Gilbert and Lynda Gache for Tap, Charles Kelly, Acrobatics, Janice Roston , Hip-Hop, Steven Boyd, Lyrical and Ann Marie Leo, children's work, to name a few.
Our teaching faculty have either danced competitively, danced professionally, majored or minored in dance education or are certified dance instructors. The one common denominator is we are all passionate about dance, love teaching and are thrilled to pass on our knowledge and passion of dance to you and your child!
